SBTi’s new Corporate Net-Zero Standard (CNZS) V2.0 is raising a lot of questions for sustainability leaders. For businesses coming to the end of their target cycle or those who are considering signing up, new requirements mean they may need to review their climate strategy now. However, the guidance is complex and the final methodologies are not yet confirmed.
Critically, SBTi is moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach on targets and towards supporting businesses as they navigate and implement the low-carbon transition. It accepts that not all companies will travel in a straight line and, as such, sectoral pathways will offer greater flexibility. Businesses need to engage with the new Standard to understand the implications for their sector and new requirements on transparency. They have to quickly figure out:
Strategy: Whether the new Standard and approach are right for the business;
Transition Plans: If so, how it will be implemented within operations and supply chains, and;
Communications: How to maintain credibility around any new commitment.
Whether to move, when to move, how to move and the implications of each are all multifaceted questions. Download our Brief to help think about these decisions.
