The Sustainability Reset: What sustainability leaders told us needs to change

2 MINUTE READ | TOM CARR, NICK WYVER

Sustainability has felt under threat. We brought together 80 sustainability practitioners to debate what a meaningful sustainability reset needs to look like.

Throughout 2025 the prevailing narrative has been that sustainability is under threat or facing a recession. We see it differently. Rather than retreat, this feels like a moment for businesses to pause, take stock, and reset.

In September, we brought together 80 practitioners at the National Theatre in London to discuss the pressures being felt by companies and sustainability teams. Participants reported different contexts and conditions, with the sustainability challenges differing based on a company’s sector, size and maturity. But there were a series of points raised in common. First, a set of four sticking points, where we need to get creative to keep progress on track. And set against those, five big questions which practitioners suggested are going to be key in navigating what this reset looks like.

Download our summary of the honest and candid conversation to find out where other practitioners are feeling pressures, and how leaders are finding practical ways to refocus efforts and keep sustainability progress on track.

As one panellist told us;

“It’s a massive challenge, it’s really hard work - but honestly, I’ve still got the best job in the world.”
